Conversation in English
At Sports Club
Express disbelief, show sympathy, give encouragement
Tim : Hi Ken, What’s
wrong? You look terrible.
Ken : Oh, hi Tim. I
think I’m going to lose my job.
Tim : Oh, no. How
come?
Ken : My company is
being restructured and will certainly lay off some employees.
Tim : Oh, sorry to
hear that. How can you be sure you’re one of them?
Ken : A hunch! I know
that my department hasn’t made any progress for the last couple of years.
Tim : Oh, come on,
it’s just a hunch. You are an asset to your company. And I’m sure they won’t
let you go.
Ken : Thanks. But,
if they do lay me off, what will I do? I’m worried about my family.
Tim : Don’t worry.
You have a great talent and a good track record. I bet you’ll find a much
better job in no time.
Ken : Thank for your
support. That’s very nice of you.
Tim : Hey that’s what
friends are for. By the way, if worst come to worst, you can set up your own business.
With the experience and talents you have, I’m sure it’ll be easy for you to run
your own company. I can be your sleeping partner.
Ken : Ah, yeah, you’re
right. Why didn’t I give it some thought? Again big thanks, buddy.
Tim : My pleasure.
